Matte World Digital created several matte shots for the film including an establishing view of the Khitomer Peace Conference and a Klingon court room sequence.


The live-action plate was photographed at the Firemen's Fund building in Marin County, California.	The final composite, with foreground actors and an additional live-action plate of a community center building in Brandeis, California, was blended with a background matte painting of mountains and sky.


The live-action plate of Kirk and McCoy will be reduced into the Klingon court room.	A high angle view combines the accused with a miniature smoke-filled courtroom for a Klingon interrogation.
